Transparent

Creative Direction, Editorial, Documentary Co-Direction

The Transparent series, bridges cultural gaps by way of several intimate interviews and a short documentary focused on immigrants and expats living in the United States. Each interview gives insight into their inspiring and sometimes treacherous experiences. The Transparent in-person exhibition was sponsored in part by the Birmingham chapter of the NAACP.

Background

Following the Muslim ban of 2017, the anger, confusion, and fear were palpable throughout the United States. Among a full range of questions, the one I found the most pressing was — “In a world so connected through rapid globalization by way of technology, who is our neighbor?”

Further research led me to unsettling statistics revealing that most Americans don’t personally know anyone outside of their racial or cultural background. That, coupled with the technology gap along geographical (rural vs city) and economic lines only compounds the issue of being so close yet so far from one another.

Ideas That Shaped the Design + Communication

  • “The story leads. The design follows.” When working with individuals and telling their unique stories, my approach is to allow the story to inform the design.

  • Human beings are not illegal.

  • Stories have the power to cultivate and promote unity.

What This Means For You

  • Your projects and campaigns will be developed and executed with thoughtful and multi-cultural sensitivity.

  • Your unique message will be front and center across all media platforms. We don’t subscribe to a one size fits all approach in strategy or design.
